We deliver meals to homebound seniors throughout Contra Costa County—including West, East, and Central County:

Alamo, Antioch, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Canyon, Clayton, Concord, Crockett, Danville, Diablo, Discovery Bay, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Hercules, Knightsen, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Oakley, Orinda, Pinole, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill, Port Costa, Richmond, Rodeo, San Pablo, San Ramon, Walnut Creek.

We deliver meals to seniors (60 years or older) who are homebound, unable to prepare food themselves and do not have a caregiver that prepares meals. Meals are provided based on need, not on income.

Meal delivery occurs on weekday mornings between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM. The day of the week depends on the region you live in. For more information, contact the Nutrition Team at 925.937.8607.

No holiday deliveries.

All our meals are low in sodium.  Menu items are globally inspired. Menus are available on the website under "menus". 

Specific diet requests can not be accommodated.

Meals are provided at no cost to eligible clients. We welcome a voluntary donation to help sustain our programs, but no one is turned away because they are unable to contribute.

Yes. For food safety reasons, we cannot leave meals outside. Your meals will be delivered around the same time each week, and our delivery drivers also check in to see how you're doing.

If you know you will not be home, please call us in advance. We will not deliver to your home that day,

We'll do our best to start delivering meals as soon as possible. Depending on where you live, there may be a waiting period before meal delivery can begin.

Health Promotion Classes (Low impact exercise) 

Bingocize ® combines low impact exercises, nutrition info and bingo. Classes are 60 minutes.
Young at Heart is a strength training and balance exercise class using flexible bands. Classes are 60 minutes.

Fall Prevention Classes

-A Matter of Balance is an 8-week workshop class that meets 2 hours each session by certified coaches. Participants become more confident about managing falls, identifying ways to reduce falls and gentle exercise.

-On the Move is a 12-week exercise class held twice a week for 60 minutes led by a certified physical therapist (or occupational therapist) designed to improve walking.

-Enhance® Fitness is a 12-week exercise class that increases mobility, balance and strength. Utilizing ankle/wrist weights for strength exercises and 20-minutes of aerobics. Classes are 60 minutes.

Monthly Class Calendar

Our Health Promotion classes are $6 per person/per class. Each Senior/Community Center may also add an additional charge.

-Queen of All Saints Church is $6 cash or check only.

Call the hosting senior center to register. Space is limited.

Our Fall Prevention classes are free provided through California Department of Aging. A fee however may be charged by individual Senior/Community Center for registration at that center.

Our Health Promotion classes (Bingocize®/Young at Heart) are drop-in after registration and payment.


Our Fall Prevention classes (Matter of Balance, On the Move, Enhance® Fitness) are not drop-in classes. They are built upon each class week by week.

Lunch is provided to seniors (60 years and older) free of charge. A suggested donation of $3.00 a meal is appreciated, but not required. No one will be turned away for their inability to provide a donation. Guests under 60 are also welcome and will be charged $6.00 a person.

To reserve your spot, please call your local Café by 11:30am the day before you want to come for lunch.

Driving Roles (E.G. Meal Delivery Driver, Friendly Visitor/Friendly Helper) 21+ Valid driver’s license, clean DMV record (3 years), background check, orientation, personal liability insurance, smartphone, reliable vehicle

Other Volunteer Roles: 18+  Background check, Orientation

Commitment: At least 6 Months (Preferred)

  • Meal Delivery Driver: Once a week, deliver 12–16 meals in coolers to homebound seniors during weekdays. You’ll also check on their well-being and return empty coolers afterward. 
  • Friendly Visitor/Caller/Helper: Visit, call or assist with errands like grocery pickup or transportation with a senior once a week for companionship.
  • Court Accompaniment: Help a senior navigate their court appointment
  • Café Volunteer: Support local lunch sites by greeting, serving meals, or helping with reservations. 
  • Office Support: Help with mailings once a month or program support as needed. 
  • Special Events: Assist with the set-up, clean-up and on the day tasks for events for Meals on Wheels Diablo Region.

No. We do not sign off court ordered volunteer hours.

If you don't have much time, we invite you to volunteer at our special events. We always need help with ticket sales, fundraising, and event staffing. Additionally, you can look at our gifting guide to see what in-kind donations we accept from community members to deliver to our seniors along with their meals.

Yes! For group volunteers that are interested in long term commitments, you are able to adopt a route. This means that your group will be assigned one route and every week you are able to rotate drivers within your team. Please contact us to check availabilities.  

For groups that are interested in a one time volunteer opportunity, check in with us about special event help or check out our gifting guide. Groups can create small gifts such as cards or care packages that will go out on deliveries with meals to our seniors.

Your gift helps fund meal delivery, wellness checks and our programs including fall prevention, health and wellness and friendly programs.

Yes. Tribute gifts are a meaningful way to celebrate or remember someone. You can include a name and notify a family member or friend

Employee matching gift programs are corporate giving programs in which the company matches donations made by employees to eligible nonprofit organizations.  It's an easy way to double your contribution to us!

Requesting a matching gift is normally a short process that must be initiated by you, the donor. You can do this by filling out and submitting a paper match form provided by your employer or through an electronic submission process.

The general process is:

  1. Donate to Meals on Wheels Diablo Region.
  2. Log into your company's matching gift submission website (if you use our search tool, you will receive a follow-up email linking to this page).
  3. Once logged in, search for Meals on Wheels Diablo Region.  
  4. Register the donation.  
  5. Submit the completed matching gift request to your employer.
